should my son or daughter pack for the trip?

4 changes of clothes excluding t – shirts.
Three T- shirts will be provided. We will wear them
on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. For Saturday we
will all be wearing Blue Jeans or Blue Jean Shorts.
All other days will be your choice for pants or
shorts as long as they are school appropriate.

Pajamas, sweats, etc. – the kids will be
sharing rooms and need to dress appropriately at
night.

Hygiene products (toothbrush, toothpaste,
bath products, hair products, Deodorant or
Antiperspirant, Razor, Sanitary supplies (Women),
etc.)

Shoes (Marching, and sneakers - We will be
doing a lot of walking)
-
Black socks, Plain black T-shirt, dance
pants, etc. - whatever you will need for the
performance.

Jacket, sweatshirt, or something warmer for
the evenings.

Semi- Formal Attire for the dinner cruise on
Monday evening (Gentleman Shirt and Ties, ladies
dress slacks, nice shirt or a dress of appropriate
length and coverage of body.)
Books, I-pod, Gameboy, a
camera to take in carry-on luggage on the plane.
*Note that your student is responsible for the care
and safety of any items they may bring.

to sleep in the same bed as others. All of these
must fit in your suitcase.

When
does the luggage need to be at the school?
We are shipping
all luggage and instruments, not taking them
on the plane with us.
All items that cannot fit into
your child’s carry-on must be packed in one bag that
will be shipped to Washington DC along with the
music instruments on Tuesday October 5, 2010.
We will ship one bag
per student.
It must be at the school with
their instrument on Tuesday Oct 5, 2010
We
will not be checking luggage on the airplane.

How many bags can my son or daughter bring on
the plane?
Each band member is allowed
one carryon bag.

It must weigh less than
40 lbs
-
Must not exceed 45 linear
inches in combined length, width and height.
(22" x 14" x 9") = 22 + 14 + 9 = 45"
- Baggage
must fit easily in the Carry-on
Baggage Check at the gate.
All other items that cannot
fit into the carry-on need to be packed in the bag
that is delivered to the school on Tuesday,
Oct 5th. Please check your
specific flight carrier to read all of their
requirements.
What can they bring on the
airplane?
Books, electronic devices,
umbrella, coat.
Do not bring the
following on the plane, it may be confiscated:
Carry-On Toiletries:
remember you are only allowed a small number of
liquids in your carry-on.

Each liquid container must
be less than 3.4 oz. (100ml)

All items must
fit into one (1) quart-size Ziploc bag per person,

It must taken out of your
carry-on and placed in a security bin for
screening.
Security will TAKE any items
that violate these rules.

call you child if they have a cell phone

child’s chaperone – You will get this on the October
4, 2010 parent meeting

What flight is my son or daughter on? When
do the flights depart and arrive?
You will be receiving all
this 2nd.
6.
When will my child obtain their airline
ticket?
More information will follow
as I am awaiting information to fully answer this.
7.
How is my child getting to and from the
airport?
It is the parent’s
responsibility to drop off and
pick up their child at the airport.
Your child’s
chaperone will be calling you with the exact meeting
time and location.
If you are unable to provide
transportation for your child, please let me know
and we will see what we can do. We will have a
travel release that you will need to sign at the
parent meeting.
8.
Medications / Release forms, etc.
All Forms should be on file
with the school and boosters. Please update your
records if anything medically has changed since Band
Camp.
9.
What is the itinerary while in Washington DC?
Itineraries will be given out
on October 4 and will also be posted on the web site
prior to leaving.

When and where is the band performing?
The competition is schedule
for 10:00am – 2:00 p.m on Monday, October 11. The
band will be performing on the White House Ellipse
Lawn. The Millennium band will is scheduled to
perform at 12:30. However, times are approximate
and subject to change. If you are planning on
attending, please plan on arriving early.

How much does it cost to watch to
competition?
It’s free!!!!!
Did
we receive clearance to tour the White House on
Tuesday morning?
We are still awaiting clearance from the
white house and will let you know once we find out.
Flying Tips:
You must have an official
I.D. To speed up
security:
- Have your ID out and
ready
- Coats, "hoodies" and
sweaters must be removed.
- Wear easy-off shoes &
socks. Shoes must be removed.
- Do not wear jewelry,
or remove it before going through the screening
- Put your keys in your
carry on bag.
- Take your belt off.
- The X-Ray device will
not hurt cameras.
- If you are bringing a
laptop, have it out, open and booted up. (not
recommended)
- ALL LIQUIDS -
- each item must be
less than 3oz.
- including
chapstick and lipgloss
- must fit in a 1
quart Ziploc baggie.
- must be out of
your bag and in a screening tray.

All doors will be taped after room
checks by chaperones. If the tape is
broken-every person in the room will be disciplined.
Emergency situations will be dealt with on a case by
case scenario.
o
Any student disciplined on trip WILL
ALSO face disciplinary action from MHS
Administration.
o
No leaving any practice area without
permission
o
All students and their
parents/guardians are responsible for any damage
done to properties while away on trip.
o
All students must travel in groups of
4 or more at all times.
